Since June 2008, the Rwanda Education Assistance Project, Inc. (REAP), a U.S.-registered 501(c)(3) and locally registered nonprofit in Rwanda, has worked alongside rural public schools, communities, and local government in the Musha Sector of Rwamagana District. Through an integrated approach to education and community development, REAP addresses the social and economic barriers that limit educational opportunity and contribute to cycles of poverty.
Our Studio supported this mission through the architectural design of the intiative’s educational and community resources. The work included spaces for early childhood education, community learning, and shared programming, with an emphasis on creating functional environments that support learning, collaboration, and community life.
Key initiatives include INEZA Academy, a research-based early childhood education program designed around a 20:2 student-to-teacher ratio and play-based outdoor learning; the Community Learning Center and Library (CLCL), conceived as a central hub for education, health, literacy, and community programs; and the SEED Project, which supports entrepreneurship and local economic initiatives. Together, these efforts demonstrate how thoughtful design and community-focused architecture can support education, opportunity, and long-term development.
